Elusive squirrel vs Boomer

Ok, so Boomer and the squirrel were at it again this weekend.  They were at this position...

(side note, I have no clue why it won't post pictures like they are saved) for most of the day today.  You'll notice the squirrel at the top middle of the picture out on the branch.  Here's a closer look of the squirrel and Boomer:

He even points!  I don't think Boomer has a clue what he'll do if he even gets a hold of the squirrel.

On another note, I have a new activity to keep me busy here in Iowa.  I am helping coach a minor league softball team in Eddyville, IA.  The team is called the "Frogs", and there are 10 10 year olds on the team.  Tom (I work with him) and his wife Shelly are coaching (their daughter is on the team) and I volunteered to help out.  We have practice every Tuesday and Thursday.  I think that it will be a lot of fun.  We had our fist practice last Thursday.  I'll keep you updated on the schedule and games as they come.  It will be quite different than coaching the 5th and 6th grade girls volleyball team in College Station, seeing that volleyball was more my sport than softball.  But, I can still throw and catch the ball.  :)

I just got finished watching Baylor beat Green Bay.  Too bad Green Bay didn't beat them.  Now A&M has to play Baylor for the 4th time this season!  It's going to be a great game.  I'll wear my maroon on Tuesday!

I guess that is all for now.  I would have a countdown clock to when I get to come home for Easter, but I'm having the hardest time putting it up on my page.  I think this is one of the longest stretches that I've been away from home in a VERY long time.  I'm just excited to get to see my family.  Stacy and Blaine are picking me up at the airport.  And, I get to eat at PMR!!  (The one time I ate Mexican Food here in Iowa was not a good experience.  The menu had "Let us introduce you to Mexican Food" on the front.  Plus, I got sick at 3 am.)

This week should be an interesting week at work.  The USDA Planting Intentions report comes out on Thursday.  It will be interesting to see what that says and how many acres of corn will be planted this year.  If it comes in on the low side, the next 6 months will be very interesting.

And, let's hope we get a warm up soon.  We haven't been too much above freezing all weekend.  We even had snow on Friday!  Of course it was gone by the end of the day, but it is the end of March!!  I can tell you that snow has lost it's shine for me.

Until next time...

My Weekend

First off, I'd like to wish a special "Happy Birthday" to Gina and Donita in my office here in Iowa.  It was Donita's 40th and we decorated the office with black balloons and streamers and had a special photo that we put out everywhere.  It was great!  I made the "Perfectly Chocolate Chocolate Cake" and it didn't turn out too bad if I say so myself.  My mom should be proud!

I got a real funny phone call from my brother on Saturday night.  He got the pleasure of babysitting my 17 month old nephew Blaine for the evening since my brother-in-law took my sister to dinner and a movie in Victoria.  Please keep in mind that Bradley hasn't really watched Blaine unsupervised ever.  Never changed a diaper, never gave him a bath, fixed a meal, etc.  The extent of his experience is just entertaining Blaine.

So, back to the point of this story...  Bradley is on his way to Stacy's house with Blaine asking me questions about taking care of him.  I was told that if complications arouse, I would need to be near my cell phone and the possibility of being "Skyped" was mentioned.  I told him under no circumstances did I want to see a "poopy diaper".  Bradley said that if one did happen, Blaine would have to sit in it till his mom came home.  Poor kid.  Anyways, the one thing that he said that I thought was absolutley hysterical - "Can Blaine give himself a bath?".  Do what??  I told him Blaine was 17 months and that no, he couldn't give himself a bath.  I asked him if he was serious, and he said that he was.  Wow.  So I get a phone call later that evening and Bradley wanted to know how much bath water was to be in the tub.  I told him just enough to cover his legs.  Bradley said that it was already up to his bellybutton, and I told him that that was plenty enough.  I think he learned a few lessons that night.  He's had plenty of opportunity to learn!  :)  Poor kid.  I think Blaine ended up having a blast with him.  Bradley's always good at entertaining.

Other than that, it was a pretty standard weekend.  Saturday was pretty ugly outside and Sunday was much better.  Actually warm enough to get Boomer out for a nice walk!  Speaking of, dumb-dumb really likes my leather chair.  I came downstairs to this...

I know it's upside down, but the file it's saved as is right side up.  I thought it was a cute picture.  It's easier to get his hair off of leather than the cloth on my couch.  He know's he's not supposed to be on the furniture!

I'm heading to Lynville for a farmer's marketing meeting in Lynnville with Maurice.  That should be fun.  Not sure what I'm going to do this next weekend, we'll see how exciting I can make it.

It is slightly warming up.  Next week is in the 60's!!!

I made it to 2 posts!!

This must be a record or something...I made it to a second post!!  I'm sitting in my comfy leather chair with my "Snuggie".  You may laugh at me, but don't knock it till you try it.  Whoever thought a blanket with sleeves could be so awesome!  Plus it's an A&M one (thanks Mom and Dad).

Well, I started (and completed) a new project over the weekend.  Let me introduce you to what I call "Ellen Art".

I know that it's not on the wall where it is going (above the couch), but it turned out a lot better than what I thought I could do.  I got the idea from watching too much HGTV one weekend.  It was a lot cheaper than buying someone else's and a lot easier to match colors.  It was easy enough, maybe I'll try it again.

On another subject, I'm watching "The Bachelor" right now and I officially am adding South Africa to my "Bucket List" as somewhere I want to go.  An African Safari sounds like so much fun.

Tomorrow will get close to 50 degrees!  So I don't have the excuse this week to put off running.  I start with my 1.5 mile run tomorrow.  Boomer is going too.  Mom says he's looking "rotund".  :)

Here We Go Again...

Ok, so I'm going to try this again.  I started a blog with one post (go figure) and I have now forgotten the email address and the blog name.  Ha!!  So, the whole point of this thing is a new year's resolution to keep some sort of journal of my life events as I embark on my new life in Iowa.

Well, let's see...A whole lot has happened since 1/1/11.  I've survived my first blizzard - which included black ice, my mom and dad have made a visit, the snow finally melted, and now it's back again!  Oh, and we can't forget about my senior moment last Friday when I accidently left my wallet on my kitchen counter and couldn't get on my flight to College Station.  I had to be an hour from the airport (on a 3 hour drive) before I figured that out.

So, I went into a ditch...

I had angels watching out for me that day.  God protected me from that telephone pole and from rolling over - which should have happened considering the angle and steepness of the ditch I went in.

Until next time...
